You're viewing it from one side of the story. I'm assuming you think more of someone being worthy enough for a pursuit and the romanticisms that surround that. However, do you not hold pity for the one endlessly trying? Falling behind, missing their moment?

However, Zhongli sees part of himself that he hates to admit: that many part of his life had been pursuits that lead to nothing. Not simply in a romantic sense with a partner (although... ), but in life's weird weaving.
Zhongli may grow annoyed and disapproving of Venti's drunken antics, where Barbatos had sowed the seeds for this kind of behavior... but he listens to every word. ]
